Dancing the Waltz

For those of you in the US, Happy President’s Day! For everyone else, Happy Monday!

In preparation for my series with Dr. Herbert Rappaport,  I have been thinking about and working on/with the people who are difficult for me. And, guess what the first thing I have had to take look at is…ME.

I knew that I was my own secret weapon, but it doesn’t make it any easier. If we want to make a shift with the people that are important but challenging, we have to find a different “dance.” We are most in control of our own moves, and it is easier to do something than to tell another.

Next week, I will share one of my experiments with you. For now, take a look at the difficult people in your world, get a little notebook, and jot some notes to help modify your dance.

  1. What do you observe in that person’s pattern of action? What do you know about how they think?
  2. What do you observe about your own action and thinking?
  3. What do you want to happen?

Then we will get to work!
