It is very easy to focus on the challenges and the to-dos of life. This week, I am beginning the week “grounding” myself in gratitude. I am grateful for so much. The people in my life come first, including you. The work that uses my talents, maybe second. The opportunities to make a difference, definitely. For me, the things of everyday life are not as important, but I am grateful to have a comfortable existence. I recognize not everyone does.

I was reminded of something Anne Lamott said, a wonderful, funny, spirited author who has faced far more life challenges than I have faced.

Gratitude begins in our hearts and then dovetails into behavior. It almost always makes you willing to be of service, which is where the joy resides. It means that you are willing to stop being such a jerk. When you are aware of all that has been given to you, in your lifetime and the past few days, it is hard not to be humbled, and pleased to give back.

Take a few minutes today (and maybe everyday) to feel into your gratitude.
