I’m a big believer in the power of a picture to stimulate our personal thinking and a team’s visioning, problem-solving, and collaboration. Pictures make us:

  1. Focus on facts and sequences of events, conversation, and actions.
  2. “See” the missing information we need.
  3. Isolate the problem or identify opportunities.

I recently stumbled on this Ted Talk by Tom Wujec called “How to Make Toast.” He uses the same method for what he calls “wicked problems” in organizations. Take a listen–it’s about 9 minutes long.

As suggested on his website, I’m considering using the video to get my teams started in the critical thinking that will drive their success.

Let me know what you think about the approach and what “wicked” problems you or your team are facing. I would love to help you work the information to generate ideas.
